Death of “Rostam Ejbari,” a Political Opponent of the Islamic Republic, One Day After Assassination in Afghanistan
According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, on Thursday, October 9, 2025, a Baloch opponent of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who was shot and severely injured by unidentified armed individuals in Herat, Afghanistan, the previous day, passed away after approximately 30 hours due to the severity of his injuries.
The individual has been identified as “Rostam Ejbari,” also known as Haji “Rostam Baloch,” son of Haji Ahmad. He was a Sunni Baloch from the Pishin region in Khorasan, who had been living in Afghanistan in recent years and was well-known among Baloch activists for his critical stance and open opposition to the policies of the Islamic Republic.
According to sources from the Balochistan Human Rights Group, the shooting targeting this Baloch citizen took place in one of the central areas of Herat, and the individual was transferred to a hospital after being struck by two bullets to the head. He was admitted to the intensive care unit of Herat hospital during this period.
Sources, quoting individuals close to his family, stated that Haji Rostam had previously been threatened with assassination by agents of the Islamic Republic multiple times. His condition was reported as critical by doctors, and the attackers fled the scene after the shooting.
As of the time of this report, no information is available regarding the identity or motives of the attackers, but those close to him have linked the act to the security apparatus of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
It is noteworthy that some media outlets affiliated with the Islamic Republic have indirectly reported his assassination by proxy forces linked to the Iranian regime, identifying Haji Rostam as one of the commanders of “Jaish al-Adl,” a claim that has been denied by those close to him.
It should be noted that, based on collected reports in 2024, at least 469 Baloch citizens have been targeted in armed attacks by unidentified individuals, resulting in 284 deaths and 185 injuries.
