Yesterday, on April 16, 2024, according to the Balochistan Human Rights Group (BHRG), Haji “Ahmad Gorgij” was transferred to Imam Ali Hospital in Zahedan due to his deteriorating physical condition and lack of timely medical attention in prison, where he tragically passed away.
Haji Ahmad Gorgij, son of Khodadad, was a respected resident of Zahedan and one of the trusted individuals in the region.
Before being transferred to Imam Ali Hospital, Mr. Gorgij’s health had severely deteriorated in prison, accompanied by indifference and neglect of medical care by prison authorities. After a day of delay, he lost his life following his transfer to Imam Ali Hospital in Zahedan.
Some sources suggest that Mr. Gorgij was executed in Zahedan Central Prison, but his family and authorities are reluctant to provide precise details due to his prominent status in the community, being from the elders tribe, a trusted figure in Zahedan.
Ahmad Gorgij had a Basij base in the Lar area of Zahedan and was detained by intelligence forces along with 13 of his associates in 2018.
According to reports, one of the operational commanders of the Revolutionary Guards named Colonel Poudineh was involved in drug trafficking. After his exposure, intelligence forces from Tehran came to arrest Poudineh, who in turn detained Mr Ahmad and his forces.
Colonel Poudineh reportedly handed over goods and equipment to Mr Ahmad’s forces for transportation, unaware that they were under surveillance by intelligence forces and the goods were illicit.
Mr Ahmad Gorgij was suffering from poor physical health and Alzheimer’s in Zahedan Central Prison, experiencing both physical and mental deterioration.
Today, on April 17, 2024, the funeral ceremony of Haji Ahmad Gorgij was held, and he was buried in the Lar Cemetery.
It’s worth noting that in 2023 alone, at least 184 Baluchi prisoners were executed on various charges in 26 different cities across Iran, with Zahedan prisons having the highest number of executions at 54, followed by 31 in Birjand. Among these prisoners, there are at least four women.
