The demolition of fishmongers’ stalls and people’s homes by municipal and military forces in Chabahar this week is particularly concerning. These fishmongers have been operating in the area for years, and the residents whose homes were destroyed have lived there for over two decades. However, the municipality, with the use of bulldozers, is undertaking the destruction of both livelihoods and residences.

It’s worth noting that, according to Article 31 of the Iranian Constitution, having suitable housing according to one’s needs is the right of every Iranian individual and family. Therefore, the government is obliged to prioritize the execution of this principle, especially for the more vulnerable segments of society, notably the working class.

This situation calls for international attention and highlights the need for the protection of citizens’ rights and livelihoods.
