According to the Balochistan human rights group , today Wednesday, April 24, 2024, a Baloch child lost his life due to drowning in a Hotak in the village of Rank located in Dashtiyari County. The identity of this Baloch child, “Yasna Sheikh,” 11 years old, from the village of Rank in the Polan section of Dashtiyari County, has been mentioned.

According to the report, Yasna fell into the Hotak while leaving the house due to slippery conditions near the Hotak and lost his life.

This incident occurs while in recent months Dashtiyari has witnessed heavy floods, and many Hotaks are filled with water. Despite the announcement of fencing and barriers around the Hotaks by officials, no action has been taken so far, and people, due to the lack of water supply networks, are forced to obtain their drinking water from the Hotaks.

What is a Hotak and why is it built?

A Hotak is a relatively large artificial or natural reservoir where water collected from rainfall is directed and stored. Throughout the year, this water is used for agricultural purposes and drinking water for domestic and wild animals.

It should be noted that areas like Dashtiyari are deprived of water supply networks and pipelines, and people obtain their drinking water from these Hotaks.
