According to the report of the Iranian Human Rights Organization, executions increased by 43% compared to the previous year, with at least 834 individuals sentenced to death in the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2023. These figures indicate a deeply concerning human rights situation in this country. Among the executed individuals, even 7 were executed in public places.

These executions encompass a wide range of individuals, including protesters, ethnic minorities, and Baloch prisoners. Additionally, even young people were among the victims of this policy of executions in Iran.

Iran’s use of executions as a political tool and denial of access to legal representation for many of the convicts demonstrates that this country is far from being a supporter of human rights ideals.

On Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Central European Time, a gathering on human rights in Iran will be held in Geneva. Panel members, including Javid Rahman, Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, and representatives from human rights organizations, will participate.

In this gathering, Ms. Sabah Bandoui will also be present on behalf of the Balochistan Human Rights Group.

Given this alarming situation, the international community must address this issue with caution and impartiality, utilizing all diplomatic means to prevent these serious human rights violations in Iran.
