According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, on tuesday , December 19, 2023, the United Nations General Assembly approved Canada’s proposed resolution condemning human rights violations by the Islamic Republic of Iran with 78 in favor, 30 against, and 68 abstentions.
Issues such as the suspicious deaths of prisoners, pressure on women regarding the hijab, arbitrary detentions, and the unfavorable situation of Afghan migrants in Iran were among the human rights violations addressed in this resolution.
This resolution had previously been approved by the Third Committee of the United Nations with a majority vote.
