Pregnant Mother Dies Following Medical Negligence at Imam Ali Hospital in Chabahar
​According to a report by the Baluchistan Human Rights Group, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, a pregnant Baluch mother named “Fatemeh,” who had gone to Imam Ali Hospital in Chabahar last week for childbirth, passed away after being transferred to Zahedan due to severe medical negligence and complications arising from her treatment. Following the delivery of one baby, the mother was discharged from the hospital while a second fetus remained inside her womb.
​The medical staff failed to notice the second fetus after the birth of the first child and discharged her. Upon returning home, her physical condition deteriorated rapidly, prompting her to return to Imam Ali Hospital. Due to the onset of severe infection and her worsening health condition, she was dispatched to Zahedan, where she died approximately two hours after arriving at the hospital.
​It is reported that the failure to remove the placenta was among the complications experienced by the mother, which subsequently led to a severe infection and the critical decline of her condition. Discharging the patient without diagnosing these complications has raised serious questions regarding the post-natal care standards and the performance of the medical staff at Imam Ali Hospital in Chabahar.
​In response, state-run media outlets, including the IRNA news agency, reported that Mansour Bijar, the Governor of Sistan and Baluchestan, instructed the Director General of the Governor’s Office for Inspection, Performance Management, and Legal Affairs to visit Chabahar to investigate the treatment process, the actions taken from the onset of the complication, and the circumstances surrounding her transfer to Zahedan. According to this order, her medical records, post-natal care procedures, and measures taken to manage the complications will undergo official review.
​This death occurred against a backdrop of long-standing complaints by residents regarding Imam Ali Hospital in Chabahar, including shortages of medical equipment, a lack of specialized staff, and inadequate healthcare delivery. Due to the recurrence of tragic incidents at this facility, several locals refer to it as a “slaughterhouse”—a term reflecting the deep dissatisfaction and lack of public trust in the hospital’s medical services.
