“Iran: Repression Without Borders” — UN Human Rights Council Side Event to Examine Iran’s Transnational Repression
A side event titled “Iran: Repression Without Borders” will be held on Monday, 21 September 2026, during the 63rd Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
According to the event announcement, the session will examine Iran’s transnational repression activities and possible ways to address them.
The event will be hosted and moderated by Taimoor Aliassi of the Kurdistan Human Rights Association – Geneva. Speakers include Roya Boroumand of the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center for Human Rights in Iran, Nasser Boladai of the Balochistan Human Rights Group (BHRG), Baloch human rights activist Fariba Balouch, and international human rights lawyer Jennifer Robinson, Counsel for BBC Persian.
The concluding remarks will be delivered by Mai Sato, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, and Sara Hossain, Chair of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Iran.
The event will take place from 13:00 to 14:00 CEST in Room Concordia 4, Palais des Nations, Geneva.
The event is convened around the fourth anniversary of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, which began following the death of Jina Mahsa Amini in morality-police custody on 16 September 2022.
