Fuel Carrier Killed Following Gunfire by Military Forces in Qainat

According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, on the evening of Wednesday, September 9, 2026, a Baloch fuel carrier was targeted by gunfire from military forces near a checkpoint on the Qain road in South Khorasan Province. He died from the severity of his injuries.

The identity of the citizen has been reported as Mehdi Sanchouli, 50 years old, son of Mohammad Reza (Saleh), married and father of five children. He was originally from Zabol and was residing in Mashhad.

According to sources, military forces using private vehicles opened fire on the fuel carrier’s vehicle near the checkpoint on the Qain road, without ordering him to stop or issuing any prior warning. As a result of the shooting, he was seriously injured.

Sources added that due to delays in the timely arrival of emergency medical services and medical staff, the citizen died from the severity of his injuries.

It should be noted that throughout 2025, at least 173 fuel carriers were killed and 132 injured. Of these, 131 people were killed and 80 injured in road accidents. In incidents involving military forces, including shootings, landmine explosions, pursuits, and beatings, 37 people were killed and 44 injured. Two people drowned in connection with fuel-carrying activities. In addition, fires resulted in 1 death and 7 injuries, while shootings by unidentified armed individuals resulted in 2 deaths and 1 injury. During the same year, at least 211 fuel carriers were arrested.
