Call by 15 Human Rights Organizations to Save the Lives of Three Arab Political Prisoners Sentenced to Death

According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, on Saturday, July 12, 2025, fifteen human rights and civil organizations issued a joint statement expressing concern over the imminent execution of three Arab political prisoners in Sepidar Prison, Ahvaz, and called for urgent international action to prevent these executions. The prisoners, convicted of “rebellion” and sentenced to death, were transferred to solitary confinement on June 25, 2025, facing a serious risk of execution.

The statement notes that Ali Mojadam, Moein Khanfari, and Mohammadreza Moghadam were sentenced to death under conditions involving credible claims of violations of fair trial principles, denial of legal representation, and confessions obtained under torture. It also highlights that the three had previously been held in solitary confinement for extended periods and subjected to intense interrogations.

The signatories urged the international community to apply political and diplomatic pressure to halt the execution of these three political activists. The statement further condemned the recent alarming increase in executions, stating: “We strongly denounce the retaliatory actions of Iranian security institutions against political activists and ethnic and religious minorities, and warn against the instrumental use of the death penalty as a tool of intimidation and suppression.”

Citing the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the authors of the statement described the death penalty as a violation of human dignity and contrary to Iran’s international obligations, emphasizing that in a system lacking transparency and judicial independence, the death penalty is not a tool of justice but a means of control and oppression of the people.
