Critical Condition of Samin Shahbakhsh Following Security Forces’ Armed Raid and Shooting in Sar Jangal, Zahedan

According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, as of Tuesday, February 17, 2026 (corresponding to 28 Bahman 1404), the health condition of an 18-year-old Baloch citizen named Samin Shahbakhsh, son of Darmohammad, has deteriorated severely. He is currently in critical condition and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after being shot in the abdomen during a violent raid by security forces.

The incident occurred on Sunday, February 15, 2026 (26 Bahman 1404), when a large force of plainclothes and uniformed security personnel—accompanied by approximately twenty vehicles and more than fifty armed agents—stormed a private family home in the Sar Jangal area of Zahedan County. During the raid, Samin was directly shot and seriously wounded in the abdominal area. The operation was carried out without any judicial warrant and without providing any stated reason.

In the same raid, his brother Hamid Shahbakhsh, approximately 30 years old and also son of Darmohammad, was shot while attempting to leave the house. He succumbed to his injuries on Monday, February 16, 2026 (27 Bahman 1404).

Four members of the same extended family were detained during the assault:

  • Saeed Shahbakhsh, approx. 30 years old, son of Rasoul
  • Hamid Shahbakhsh (deceased)
  • Samin Shahbakhsh (wounded and in ICU)
  • Vahid Shahbakhsh, son of Ghasem

All four individuals are residents of Sar Jangal, Zahedan. According to witnesses, none of them were armed and they were inside their own home at the time of the raid. Four motorcycles belonging to the family were also confiscated by the security forces.

Additionally, Parviz Shahbakhsh, 33 years old and son of Darmohammad (elder brother of Hamid and Samin), had been arrested by security forces approximately one month earlier and remains in an unclear legal situation with no information about his whereabouts or charges.

To date, no official statement has been issued by any Iranian authority explaining:

  • the reason for the large-scale armed raid,
  • the direct shooting of unarmed civilians,
  • the cause of Hamid Shahbakhsh’s death,
  • or the legal basis for the detention of the surviving family members.

The operation caused widespread fear and panic among local residents, especially women and children in the area.

The Balochistan Human Rights Group strongly condemns this violent raid and the use of live fire against unarmed citizens in their own home. The group demands:

  • an immediate independent investigation,
  • full transparency from responsible authorities,
  • the unconditional release of the detained family members,
  • accountability for the killing of Hamid Shahbakhsh and the life-threatening injuries inflicted on Samin Shahbakhsh,
  • an end to arbitrary arrests and excessive use of force against Baluch citizens.

The Balochistan Human Rights Group continues to monitor the situation closely and calls on international human rights bodies to pay urgent attention to the escalating pattern of violence and arbitrary detention in Balochistan.
