  • 13th Anniversary of the Execution of 16 Baloch Prisoners

13th Anniversary of the Execution of 16 Baloch Prisoners, Including Two Children, at Zahedan Central Prison, On 26 October 2026, the 13th anniversary of the execution of 16 Baloch prisoners at Zahedan Central Prison was commemorated. The prisoners were executed on 26 October 2013, one day after an armed attack on a border post in the Saravan region. Eight of those executed had been convicted in political cases, while the other eight were sentenced in drug-related cases. Two of the political prisoners had been children at the time of their arrest. The executions took place after the armed attack, and the then Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Zahedan described them as an act of “retaliation”. The executions were met with condemnation from human rights organisations and international activists.Thirteen years later, this incident remains a deeply concerning example of collective punishment and the use of capital punishment in retaliation for an armed attack.

The case underscores the importance of protecting the right to life, ensuring judicial independence, upholding fair trial standards and prohibiting the punishment of individuals for the actions of others.
