Amnesty International Condemns the Execution of Baloch Juvenile Meysam Irandegani in a Statement
According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, today, Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Amnesty International issued a statement strongly condemning the execution of Meysam Irandegani, a Baloch juvenile who was executed in Iranshahr Prison on July 21, 2026, calling the act a clear violation of international human rights law. The organization emphasized that Meysam was only 14 years old at the time of the alleged offense, and executing him violated the Islamic Republic of Iran’s international obligations.
In May 2022, during an altercation at an auto repair shop where he worked in Khash County, Meysam Irandegani was involved in an incident that resulted in one person’s death due to a fatal knife wound. Following judicial proceedings, he was sentenced to death on charges of murder, and the sentence was carried out in Iranshahr Prison.
In its statement, Amnesty International recalled that under international law, issuing and carrying out death sentences for individuals under the age of 18 at the time of the crime is strictly prohibited. The organization also stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran executed a child offender in 2025 as well, and others who were under 18 at the time of their alleged offenses remain at risk of execution.
Highlighting the widespread execution of individuals from oppressed minorities in Iran, the organization stated that the death penalty disproportionately affects Baloch, Kurdish, and Afghan citizens. It called on the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran to immediately halt all planned executions and to establish an official moratorium as a step toward the complete abolition of the death penalty.
