The water shortage in Balochistan has escalated into a serious crisis that not only threatens the lives of the region’s inhabitants but also constitutes a blatant violation of human rights. This crisis has intensified with the arrival of summer, as temperatures soar to between 45 and 50 degrees Celsius. Despite the abundant rainfall this year that could have been an opportunity to secure water for the region, the failure to harness these resources and the inadequate attention from the Islamic Republic of Iran have exacerbated the situation.

The lack of sufficient dams and effective water management systems has led to the wastage of significant water resources, putting the people of Balochistan at severe risk of water scarcity. This shortage has not only complicated daily life but also restricted access to safe and sanitary water, clearly violating fundamental human rights to access clean water.

Moreover, the government’s neglect of Balochistan’s water situation and its failure to invest in necessary water infrastructure reflect a disregard for international human rights commitments. Human rights organizations have repeatedly emphasized that access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and governments are obligated to ensure fair and sustainable access to these resources.

Therefore, urgent and effective measures are required to address the water crisis in Balochistan. This includes constructing and developing dams, creating advanced water management systems, and ensuring equitable and sustainable access to water resources for the population. Only through these actions can we hope to alleviate the water crisis in Balochistan and uphold the basic rights of its people.
