Balochistan Human Rights Group: On Friday, 8 May 2026, a Baloch citizen named Shahim Bahrami, who had recently returned to his hometown from Oman, was arrested by plainclothes officers of the Intelligence Department in Nikshahr County.

According to reports, security agents raided his family home in the village of Karpadin without presenting any judicial warrant and detained him. Several hours after his arrest, Shahim was transferred to the Intelligence Department detention center in Zahedan.

Shahim Bahrami, aged 30, son of Roshan, is married and the father of four children. He is originally from the village of Karpadin in the Mokht District of Nikshahr County.

Details of the Arrest and Health Condition of Shahim Bahrami

According to information received by the Balochistan Human Rights Group, Shahim had been working as a fruit vendor in Oman in recent years and was reportedly suffering from psychological and mental health difficulties. After a prolonged period away from his homeland, he eventually returned to his place of residence. However, immediately upon his return, he was arrested by Intelligence Department agents.

The family’s repeated inquiries with judicial authorities in Nikshahr and various security agencies eventually resulted in officials informing them that he had been arrested “due to activities on social media.”

This explanation has been disputed by his family, who state that his social media activity was purely recreational in nature and that he had no affiliation with, or involvement in, any political organizations or movements.

Context of the Arrest: A New Wave of Detentions of Baloch Citizens Following Regional Tensions

The arrest of Shahim Bahrami is considered part of a concerning pattern of security measures targeting Baloch citizens who return to Iran from countries in the Persian Gulf region. Human rights advocates have expressed growing concern regarding the treatment of returning Baloch citizens and the increasing number of arrests carried out by security forces in recent years.

•  Execution of Baloch Prisoners

In August 2025, at least 13 Baloch prisoners were executed in different prisons across Iran. Their identities are as follows:

• Hasan Amousi (Ejbaari), 45 years old, son of Eid Mohammad, father of 8 children – executed in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad.
• Davood Lajai, 36 years old, son of Nematollah – executed in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad.
• Hesam Salari (Raeesi), 20 years old, son of Alireza – executed in Saravan Prison.
• Zaker Aramesh, 27 years old, son of Jan Mohammad – executed in Isfahan Prison.
• Bahman Shibak (Ejbaari), 35 years old, son of Pardel, father of a child – executed in Birjand Prison.
• Milad Narouei (Davoodi), 29 years old, son of Abdoljaleel – executed in Kerman Prison.
• Hafiz Siahkhani, 38 years old, son of Habib – executed in Iranshahr Prison.

The Balochistan Human Rights Group (BHRG) expresses grave concern over the continued executions, indiscriminate shootings, attacks on fuel carriers, enforced disappearances, and rising cases of suicide in Balochistan. These incidents highlight systemic violations of basic human rights, particularly against ethnic Baloch communities.

BHRG once again calls on the international community, human rights defenders, and advocacy organizations to urgently intervene, pressure the Iranian authorities to stop extrajudicial killings and executions, and ensure accountability for ongoing crimes against humanity.

The attackers first ran him over with a vehicle, then transferred him to another location, where he was severely beaten before being shot dead. His body was later abandoned near the village.

The victim has been identified as Eman Jangariki, son of Emam Bakhsh, a resident of Jangarak village, Chabahar County.

According to the information obtained, after running him over, the assailants inflicted multiple severe injuries, including fractures to his legs, before fatally shooting him.

At the time of reporting, the perpetrators of this crime remain unidentified. Unconfirmed accounts have suggested the possibility of a family-related dispute, but no official confirmation has been made.

It is important to note that patterns of such violence have been widely documented. According to collected reports, in 2024 alone at least 469 Baloch citizens were attacked by unidentified armed groups. Among them, 284 were killed and 185 injured, including 47 children and women. Of these, 17 children were killed, 14 injured, while 9 women were killed and 7 others injured.

This incident highlights the ongoing pattern of targeted violence and insecurity faced by the Baloch population, and underscores the urgent need for transparent investigations, accountability for perpetrators, and protection of vulnerable communities.

In her speech, Bandoui stated: “The right to freely practice and express one’s culture, language, and religion is a fundamental human right. Yet, for the indigenous Baloch people in Iran, this basic right is systematically denied. Ongoing repression not only threatens the cultural identity of the Baloch but also limits their participation in society.”

She pointed to oppressive policies such as extrajudicial killings, torture, arbitrary arrests, and the denial of identity documents to hundreds of thousands of Baloch, describing these acts as clear violations of human rights.

Bandoui stressed that Baloch children are deprived of the right to learn their mother tongue and are even punished for speaking it in schools. She described these actions as a serious attack on the dignity, identity, and cultural heritage of the Baloch community.

She also referred to a recent report by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), which urged Iran to take effective measures to address discrimination against ethnic minorities, including greater access to education in their native languages and protection of their cultural rights.

In concluding her speech, Bandoui called for the Iranian government to immediately implement the UN Declaration on the Rights of Minorities and urged member states to hold Iran accountable during the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in January 2025.
