Execution of a Baloch Prisoner on Charges of ‘Murdering a Highway Police Officer’ in Minab Prison

According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, on Tuesday, 13 October 2026 (21 Mehr 1405), the death sentence of a Baloch prisoner who had previously been sentenced to qisas (retribution in kind) for the alleged murder of a traffic police officer was carried out at Minab Prison in Hormozgan Province.

The prisoner was identified as Abolhasan Ranjbar, 39, from the village of Sarmast in Minab County.

According to the report, Ranjbar was arrested in December 2023 and sentenced to qisas by the First Criminal Court of Hormozgan Province on charges of murdering Third Lieutenant Jassem Hosseinian, a highway police officer.

Ranjbar was returning home from a tailoring shop with his sister when his vehicle was stopped at the Gaherdou Highway Police checkpoint on the Jask–Minab road. According to an informed source, one of the officers struck him through the vehicle’s window and grabbed him. The source stated that the officer’s death occurred during Ranjbar’s attempt to free himself.

Official accounts of the incident have differed. The governor of Minab stated that the officers had requested documents and checked the vehicle’s registration plate, while the police command claimed that the driver had failed to comply with an order to stop.

However, the full details of the case and the judicial proceedings have not been transparently disclosed.
