Execution of a Baloch Prisoner in Isfahan Central Prison

According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, at dawn on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, the execution of at least one Baloch prisoner was carried out in Isfahan Central Prison. The prisoner had previously been sentenced to death by the judicial authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran in a case related to drug-related charges.

The identity of the prisoner has been reported as Mohammad Yousef Issa-Zehi (Rigi), approximately 40 years old, son of Yaqub, married, and father of five children. He was a resident of Chah Jamal, Iranshahr.

According to the report, Mohammad Yousef was arrested in Isfahan in 2022 on charges related to drugs and was subsequently sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan.

Before his execution, he had been transferred to solitary confinement on three separate occasions in preparation for the implementation of his death sentence. However, each time, he was returned to the general prison ward without the sentence being carried out.

Sources have also stated that during his imprisonment, the prisoner had successfully memorized the Quran. Ultimately, during his final transfer to solitary confinement, his death sentence was carried out at Isfahan Central Prison.

According to data collected throughout 2025, at least 137 executions of Baloch prisoners were recorded across 27 different prisons in Iran. Zahedan Prison recorded the highest number, with 34 executions.

Among those executed, 94 people (approximately 68.6%) were executed on drug-related charges, 36 people (approximately 26.3%) on murder charges, 4 people (approximately 2.9%) on political and ideological charges, 2 people (approximately 1.5%) on charges of rape, and 1 person (approximately 0.7%) on unspecified charges.
