Killing of a Baloch Citizen Following Shooting by Military Forces During Suppression of Protests in Shahriar, Tehran
According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, today Thursday, 9 Bahman 1404 (equivalent to January 29, 2026), a Baloch citizen was shot by military forces during the suppression of popular protests in the Shahriar area of Tehran on the evening of Friday, 9 January 2026. He was transferred to hospital but died due to lack of proper medical treatment.
The identity of this Baloch citizen has been reported as Mohammad Javad Sarani, known as Mohammad, 30 years old, son of Isa, married and father of two children, originally from Deh-Dust Mohammad village in Hirmand County, Balochistan, and resident of Gorgan, Golestan Province.
According to reports, on the evening of 9 January 2026, during popular protests in the Shahriar area of Tehran, Mohammad Javad was shot in the leg by military forces, resulting in severe bleeding. While present near the protest site together with his wife, he was taken to a medical center in Shahriar in critical condition.
It is said that despite the severity of his injuries and heavy bleeding, no effective medical treatment was provided to this citizen, and he died around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, 10 January 2026, in the same hospital due to blood loss.
After the death of this Baloch citizen, his body was handed over to the family under heavy security measures, and his burial was carried out in Gorgan without permission for a public ceremony and in a completely securitized environment. His family has also been threatened into silence.
It should be noted that nationwide protests began in early December 2025 with widespread citizen participation, initially starting in Tehran and quickly spreading to many other cities across the country within a short period. Concurrent with the expansion of the protests, numerous reports emerged indicating the killing of more than 36,500 protesters as a result of direct gunfire by military and security forces. In the course of this suppression, the Islamic Republic imposed a widespread internet shutdown on the evening of 18 Dey, an action that caused information about the situation on the ground, victims, and the scale of violence to leak out into the free information space only in a very limited, piecemeal, and delayed manner.
