Joint Statement by Participants of the Oslo Conference: Condemning the Wave of Executions in Iran and Expressing Solidarity with the “Tuesdays for No to Execution” Campaign
October 20, 2025
The fifth Conference on Human Rights in Post–Islamic Republic Iran, organized by the Iran Human Rights Organization, was held on October 18–19 (Mehr 26–27) in Oslo. The event aimed to foster dialogue among representatives of diverse political and civic groups regarding the future of human rights in Iran.
Participants included prominent political and civil figures such as Shirin Ebadi (Nobel Peace Prize laureate), Nasser Boladai (Secretary-General of the Balochistan People’s Party), Abdullah Mohtadi (Secretary-General of Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan), Hamid Taqvaee, Fouad Pashayee, Mona Silawi, Aso Hassanzadeh, Mahdieh Golroo, Esmail Abdi, and others.
At the conclusion of the conference, the participants issued a joint statement strongly condemning the current wave of executions in Iran and expressing solidarity with the ongoing “Tuesdays for No to Execution” campaign.
The statement reads in part:
According to the Iran Human Rights Organization, between January 1 and October 19, 2025, at least 1,165 individuals were executed in Iranian prisons — more than double the number during the same period last year.
The executions have disproportionately targeted marginalized communities, particularly Baloch, Kurdish, and Arab minorities, who represent a significantly higher percentage of those executed, especially in politically motivated cases.
The statement further notes that death sentences in Iran are often issued without fair trials, based on confessions extracted under torture, and are used as a means of spreading fear and repression to preserve the current regime.
The signatories called for the immediate halt of executions in Iran and urged the public, civil organizations, and media outlets to amplify the voices of anti–death penalty activists, particularly the “Tuesdays for No to Execution” movement.
They also appealed to the international community to break its silence and take urgent and effective action to stop the ongoing wave of executions in Iran.
