
On Monday, June 10, 2024, a Baloch citizen from the border village of Chahzard in Zirkouh County (South Khorasan Province), who had been directly shot by border guards on May 24, 2024, while herding his camels near the border, passed away after 15 days in a coma at Shahada Hospital in Qaen.
The victim, identified as Hasan Afzali (Behlouani), was around 30 years old, the son of Parviz, and a father of three. He was a resident of Chahzard village in Zirkouh County.
According to reports, border guards fired six shots at Hasan Afzali near the Chahzard border area without any prior warning. After being critically injured, he was transferred to Shahada Hospital in Qaen, where he remained in a coma in the ICU for 15 days before succumbing to his injuries.
His body was only released to his family after they paid 300 million tomans (approx. $7,000) to the hospital.
Compiled reports from 2024 indicate that military and security forces’ actions have resulted in the deaths or injuries of at least 208 Baloch citizens across different regions. Among these, 115 were killed (including 13 children and 4 women) and 93 were injured (including 20 children and 12 women).
