Execution of Rahim Karimi (Zadeh Karimi) in Qaen Prison

At dawn on Sunday, June 7, 2025, the death sentence of Rahim Karimi (Zadeh Karimi), a 32-year-old married Baloch prisoner and father from Zabol, was carried out in Qaen Prison. He had been arrested about twelve years ago in Gonbad Kavous city on drug-related charges and sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of that city. Several months before his execution, he had been transferred to Qaen Prison in South Khorasan Province.

His execution took place one day after Eid al-Adha while his case was still under review by the Supreme Court, without prior notice to his family and without allowing a final visit. Prison authorities only contacted his family after the execution, instructing them to come to the prison to collect his body.

These executions have been carried out while human rights organizations have repeatedly expressed concern about the increasing number of executions in Balochistan and violations of prisoners’ rights. Published statistics show a significant rise in executions in the region compared to previous years.
