Two Executions on the Dawn of May 26, 2024
In the early hours of Monday, May 26, Hamid Shirzai (also known as Amanullah), a 39-year-old father of 10 from Zahedan and a resident of Gorgan, was executed in Birjand Prison. He had been arrested in 2019 at a checkpoint in Sahlabad and was later sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Birjand.
On the same day, Nadeem Dawoodi, a 32-year-old from Fanuj, was executed in Kahnuj Prison. He had been arrested in 2019 in Manoujan on drug-related charges and sentenced to death.
Another Execution in Manoujan Prison
In the early hours of Tuesday, June 3, Majid Behzadi (Bamri), a 38-year-old from the village of Miyandaran in Rudbar-e Jonub County, was executed in Manoujan Prison. He had been arrested about a year and a half ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Manoujan. Behzadi had his final meeting with his family the day before his execution.
These executions take place as human rights organizations continue to raise alarms over the increasing use of the death penalty in Iran, particularly in border regions such as Balochistan.
