According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, at dawn on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, five political-security prisoners including three Baloch individuals named Abdolhakim Azim Gorgij, Abdolrahman Gorgij, and Taj Mohammad Khormali, along with Malek Ali Fadaei-Nasab and Farhad Shakeri were executed in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad. The executions were carried out without prior notice to their families and without the opportunity for a final visit. Families were only informed by phone after the executions had taken place.

The prisoners were arrested in 2015 and sentenced to death in 2019 on charges of “rebellion.” After part of the verdict was overturned, the death sentences were reaffirmed and approved by the Supreme Court in August 2024.

Reports indicate that the prisoners were subjected to severe torture during interrogation, and sources close to their families claim there was insufficient evidence to justify the death sentences.

The lack of transparency and disregard for fair trial standards have once again raised serious concerns about the state of human rights in Iran.
