According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, at dawn on Saturday, March 1, 2025, the death sentence of at least one Baloch prisoner, who had previously been convicted on drug-related charges, was carried out in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad, Razavi Khorasan Province. The prisoner had been transferred to solitary confinement on Thursday, February 29, in preparation for the execution.
The identity of the prisoner has been confirmed as Masoud Yagizei (Barahouyi), approximately 35 years old, son of Karim, married and a father, originally from Zahedan and residing in Mashhad.
It has been reported that prison authorities denied the prisoner’s family a final visit, and despite their efforts to see him one last time, his execution was carried out without a final meeting at dawn today.
Masoud Yagizei was arrested in Mashhad in 2021 on drug-related charges and was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of the city. On Thursday afternoon, he was transferred from the general ward to solitary confinement in Vakilabad Prison for the execution. He had repeatedly denied the charges, claiming that a case had been fabricated against him and that he had committed no crime.
It is worth noting that in 2024, at least 111 Baloch prisoners have been executed across various cities in Iran on different charges. Among them, Zahedan Prison had the highest number of executions with 27 cases, followed by Birjand Prison with 13 cases and Yazd Prison with 14 cases.
