According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, at dawn on Thursday, February 20, 2025, the execution of at least one Baloch prisoner, who had previously been sentenced to death on drug-related charges, was carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison. The prisoner had been transferred to solitary confinement along with two other inmates on Monday, February 18, in preparation for the execution.
The identity of the executed Baloch prisoner has been confirmed as Mahmoud Barahouei, approximately 35 years old, son of Abdolsamad, and a resident of Zahedan.
It is worth noting that Mahmoud Barahouei and another individual named Hossein Sasani, a resident of Tehran, were arrested in 2021 in Tehran on drug-related charges as part of a joint case. They were subsequently sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Tehran. On the morning of Monday, February 18, both were transferred from Halls 1 and 4 of Ward 2 in Ghezel Hesar Prison to solitary confinement for the implementation of their death sentences.
It should also be mentioned that in 2024, at least 111 Baloch prisoners were executed on various charges in different cities across Iran. Among these, Zahedan Prison had the highest number with 27 executions, followed by Birjand with 13, and Yazd with 14, reflecting the alarming frequency of this inhumane punishment.
