According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, on February 13, 2025, a Baloch fuel carrier was seriously injured due to a slippery road, which led to a vehicle overturn on the Yazd to Kerman route, near the Kabootarkhan area.
The identity of the fuel carrier has been reported as Khoda Morad Qaljai, 35 years old, son of Turkestan, and a resident of Zahedan.
According to the report, Khoda Morad had recently been released from prison and, due to poverty, was forced to work as a fuel carrier driver. Following this incident, his condition is reported to be critical.
Based on the annual statistics collected from the beginning to the end of 2024, at least 479 fuel carriers were killed or injured in various incidents. Among them, 253 lost their lives, and 226 were injured. In shootings, chases, and beatings by military forces, 136 individuals were killed or injured, including 63 deaths and 75 injuries, two of which were caused by gunfire from Pakistani military forces. Additionally, in attacks and shootings by unknown armed individuals and thieves, 3 fuel carriers were killed, and 7 were injured. In 2024, at least 2 fuel carriers drowned during fuel-carrying activities. Furthermore, in fire-related incidents, 3 people lost their lives, and 7 others suffered burns.
Due to widespread poverty and unemployment in Baloch-populated areas, many citizens have been forced into the dangerous work of fuel carrying to secure their livelihood. This occupation continually exposes them to risks such as road accidents, vehicle overturns, gunfire from military forces, and natural disasters. Despite these harsh conditions, the Islamic Republic of Iran has made no significant efforts to improve the economic situation or create sustainable employment opportunities in these regions.
