According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, at dawn on Sunday, February 9, 2025, the death sentences of two prisoners—one a Baloch citizen and the other an Afghan national—were carried out in Gorgan Central Prison, Golestan Province. Both had been sentenced to death in separate cases on drug-related charges.
The Baloch prisoner was identified as Gol Mohammad Gorgij, 34, while the Afghan national was named Abdulhamid Kouhkan, 26.
According to the report, Gol Mohammad Gorgij, a Baloch citizen, had been arrested five years ago on drug-related charges and initially sentenced to 20 years in prison. However, for unknown reasons, his sentence was later changed to the death penalty. Abdulhamid Kouhkan, the Afghan national, had been arrested three years and six months ago on similar charges and was also sentenced to death.
It is worth noting that in 2024, at least 111 Baloch prisoners were executed on various charges across different cities in Iran. Zahedan prisons accounted for the highest number of executions with 27 cases, followed by Birjand with 13 cases, and Yazd with 14 cases.
