According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, early this morning, Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the execution of at least one Baloch prisoner, previously sentenced to death on drug-related charges, was carried out in Yazd Central Prison. The execution was conducted without granting the prisoner a final meeting with his family.

The identity of the prisoner has been confirmed as Ahmad Sasouli, a 28-year-old father of one, married, and the son of Safar. He was a resident of the village of Gholamali Sasouli in Zabol County.

Reports indicate that Ahmad was arrested about five years ago in Ardakan, Yazd Province, on drug-related charges. He was subsequently sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of the city. On Monday, January 8, 2025, he was transferred to solitary confinement in Yazd Central Prison in preparation for the execution.

It has been reported that in 2023, at least 184 Baloch prisoners were executed in 26 different cities across Iran. The highest number of executions occurred in Zahedan Prison (54 cases) and Birjand Prison (31 cases). Among those executed, at least four were women.

Human rights groups have repeatedly expressed concern over the growing number of executions, particularly among ethnic and religious minorities.
