According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, on Saturday, January 18, 2025, two Baloch citizens were injured in a shooting by an armed individual in Gorkan village, part of the Karvan district in Zarabad County, and were subsequently taken to the hospital.
The identities of the injured have been reported as “Ahmad Sobhani,” 22 years old, son of Mohammad, and “Mahmoud Kolkouhi-Zadeh,” 28 years old, son of Natok, both residents of Gorkan village in Zarabad County.
According to this report, a member of the Gorkan village council had previously visited a construction site to inspect the progress of a dam project, where he was attacked by a resident of the village. Following this incident, on Saturday, young people and villagers went to the home of the assailant’s father to protest and demand answers. In response, the assailant’s father opened fire on them using a Kalashnikov rifle.
As a result of the shooting, Ahmad was injured in the shoulder, and Mahmoud was wounded in the leg. Both were transferred to Imam Ali Hospital in Chabahar.
Based on reports collected in 2023, at least 192 Baloch citizens were targeted in armed attacks by unknown individuals, resulting in 150 deaths and 42 injuries. Among these victims were at least five children and four women.
