On Thursday, January 9, 2025, a Baloch well digger lost his life while digging a well on farmland in Kahak town, Zabol. The tragic incident occurred due to a well collapse and the lack of workplace safety.

The well digger has been identified as Hashim Narouyi, 30 years old, son of Ghadar, and a resident of Kohak town in Zahak County. Reports indicate that Hashim was digging a well when the structure collapsed, trapping him under the debris and causing his death.

This incident highlights the dangerous working conditions and lack of safety measures faced by workers in Balochistan. Every year, numerous Baloch workers lose their lives in similar workplace accidents. The absence of proper oversight, unclear labor regulations, and employers’ negligence in ensuring safety standards are among the primary causes of these tragedies.

Furthermore, the harsh economic realities force many Baloch workers to take on high-risk jobs with minimal wages. Sadly, in the event of such accidents, the victims’ families are often left without sufficient legal or financial support.

This tragic event underscores the urgent need for reform in workplace safety regulations, stricter oversight, and holding employers accountable to ensure the protection and well-being of workers in Balochistan.
