On Monday, December 23, 2024, a Baloch prisoner sentenced to death was transferred by officials of Birjand Central Prison to the quarantine section for the execution of his sentence.

The identity of the prisoner has been reported as “Davood Qolijayi,” a 30-year-old resident of Zabol.

According to reports by the Balochistan Human Rights Group, Davood was arrested about five years ago by security forces in Birjand County on charges of drug trafficking and was sentenced to death by the court in the same city.

Reports from this group indicate that in 2023, at least 184 Baloch prisoners were executed on various charges in 26 cities across Iran. Among these, Zahedan Prison with 54 cases and Birjand Prison with 31 cases had the highest number of executions. Furthermore, among those executed, at least four were women.
