Early this morning, Saturday, December 21, 2024, the death sentence of a citizen who had been transferred to solitary confinement (quarantine) in Zahedan Central Prison on December 19 was carried out by the prison authorities.

The identity of this citizen has been reported as Sultan Jahantigh, son of Gholamreza, married, with two wives and six children, and a resident of Sanjerani village in the Milk area of Hirmand County.

In 2019, Sultan, along with his brother and brother-in-law, identified as Naser Jahantigh and Hossein Zari, was arrested by military forces on charges of “murder.” All three were sentenced to death by the court in Zabol.

Around two years ago, Sultan was transferred from Zabol Prison to Zahedan Central Prison. On Thursday, December 19, he was moved to the prison’s quarantine section in preparation for the execution of his sentence.

According to the annual report of the Balochistan Human Rights Group, at least 184 Baloch prisoners were executed in 26 cities across Iran in 2023 on various charges. Among these, Zahedan Prison, with 54 cases, and Birjand Prison, with 31 cases, had the highest number of executions. At least four women were among the executed prisoners.
