At dawn on Monday, December 9, 2024, the death sentences of at least three Baloch prisoners, who had previously been convicted on drug-related charges, were carried out in Zahedan Central Prison. The prisoners had been transferred to solitary confinement the day before for the implementation of their sentences.
The identities of two of the prisoners have been confirmed as *Khoda Bakhsh Qanbarzehi (Barahouyi), 40 years old, son of Mohammad, married, and the father of eight children, and *Omid Hosseinzehi, 33 years old, son of Noor Mohammad, and the father of one child. The identity of the third individual remains unknown at the time of this report.
According to reports, Khoda Bakhsh and Omid were arrested in separate cases in Zahedan in 2022 on drug-related charges. They were sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Zahedan. On the morning prior to their execution, both prisoners were moved from the general ward to solitary confinement. Their families were allowed a final visit before the execution.
Reports indicate that in 2023, at least 184 Baloch prisoners were executed in 26 different cities across Iran. Zahedan prison accounted for 54 executions, while Birjand prison recorded 31. Among those executed, at least four were women.
