This morning, Wednesday, December 4, 2024, a Baloch prisoner named Mehdi Hosseinzehi, 25 years old and a resident of Mehrestan, was executed in Zahedan Central Prison.

Reports indicate that Mehdi was arrested in 2021 on charges of “murder” and spent about two years in Saravan Prison. In 2023, he was transferred to Zahedan Central Prison, where he remained for approximately 18 months before his execution.

Prior to the execution, Mehdi was moved to the prison’s quarantine section, and his family was summoned for a final visit. Yesterday, only his mother, sister, and brother were allowed a brief five-minute meeting.

According to available information, Mehdi initially denied the murder charges during his trial. However, he later confessed after the plaintiff promised to grant forgiveness in exchange for his admission. Despite this, the plaintiff ultimately refused to pardon him and insisted on the implementation of the qisas (retribution) sentence.

It is noteworthy that in 2023, at least 184 Baloch prisoners were executed in 26 cities across Iran on various charges. Zahedan and Birjand prisons reported the highest number of these executions.
