At dawn on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at least one Baloch prisoner held in Birjand Prison, who had been transferred to the prison’s quarantine section the previous day for execution, was executed by prison and judicial authorities without being granted the chance for a final meeting with their family.
The identity of one of the three prisoners has been reported as Parviz Barahui, approximately 28 years old, son of Sharif, and a resident of Zahedan.
Parviz was arrested in 2022 in Birjand by military forces and, shortly after, was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of the city. On November 16, he was moved to solitary confinement in preparation for execution, and prison officials did not permit him to have a final meeting with his family.
Some reports indicate that at least two other individuals were executed alongside Parviz on charges related to drug offenses, but their identities remain unknown at the time of this report.
It is worth mentioning that in 2023, at least 184 Baloch prisoners were executed on various charges in 26 different cities across Iran. Among these, Zahedan Prison accounted for 54 executions, and Birjand Prison for 31, the highest numbers. At least four women were among those executed.
