On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, military forces from the Mersad unit ambushed fuel carrier vehicles in the Pirkur area of Rask County, opening fire without prior warning. As a result, one fuel carrier was injured in the leg. The injured individual is reportedly from Mehrestan County.
Rising Violence Against Fuel Carriers
This incident is part of a larger pattern of violence targeting fuel carriers. According to reports, between January and December 2023, at least 321 fuel carriers were killed or injured in various incidents:
- 28 deaths and 17 injuries from direct shootings by military forces.
- 194 deaths and 58 injuries in road accidents.
- 8 deaths and 2 injuries from attacks by unidentified armed individuals.
- Additional casualties occurred in incidents such as floods, fuel storage fires, and other unspecified events, resulting in at least 14 more deaths and injuries.
This alarming trend highlights the dangerous conditions faced by fuel carriers in the region.
