At dawn on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the execution of a prisoner sentenced to qisas (retribution in kind) was carried out in Jiroft Prison after he had served seven years in prison.
The identity of the prisoner, reported as “Aref Kamali,” 32 years old, son of Mohammad, and a resident of the village of Delfard in Jiroft County, was disclosed.
Aref had been arrested by security forces on charges of “murder” and had been imprisoned for about seven years. He had previously been transferred to quarantine for the execution of his sentence, but his family requested time to obtain consent from the victim’s family. However, this consent was not granted.
It is noteworthy that, in 2023, at least 184 Baloch prisoners were executed in 26 different cities across Iran on various charges. Among these, Zahedan and Birjand prisons reported the highest numbers of executions, including at least four women among the executed prisoners.
