This morning, October 21, 2024, following a military chase and the overturning of a fuel-carrying car that resulted in a fire on the Nehbandan-Birjand road, two Baloch fuel carriers were injured. As of the time of this report, the identity of these individuals has not been confirmed. According to the report, the fuel carriers’ car overturned and caught fire after being chased by military forces at kilometer 57 of the Nehbandan-Birjand road. As a result, both occupants were injured.

Fuel carrying is one of the few jobs that many Baloch citizens in various parts of Balochistan turn to, but gunfire from military and security forces, as well as road accidents, often threaten their lives.

According to annual reports, from the beginning of 2023 to the end of the year, at least 321 fuel carriers were killed or injured in various incidents. In direct shootings by military forces, 28 fuel carriers lost their lives, and 17 were injured. Additionally, 194 people died and 58 were injured in road accidents. In shootings by unknown armed individuals, 8 people were killed and 2 were injured. In other incidents, such as floods, fires at fuel storage sites, and one unspecified case, at least 14 people were killed or injured.
