In the early hours of Thursday, October 17, 2024, a Baloch prisoner named Mahmoud Bamari was executed at Kahnuj prison. Mahmoud Bamari, approximately 45 years old and a resident of Zahaklut, was arrested in December 2018 on charges of killing a military officer named Sajjad Jorjandi and was sentenced to death by a criminal court in Kahnuj.
Despite a previous agreement in which the victim’s family accepted blood money in a meeting with Bamari’s family, the execution was still carried out. Mahmoud Bamari was transferred from the general ward to the execution holding area (quarantine) without his family’s knowledge, and the sentence was enforced.
Reports indicate that at least 184 Baloch prisoners were executed in Iran in 2023, with most of these executions taking place in the prisons of Zahedan and Birjand. Among those executed were at least four women.
