Execution of Two Baloch Prisoners in Birjand Prison Without Final Family Visit

At dawn on Sunday, October 13, 2024, the execution of at least two Baloch prisoners on drug-related charges was carried out in Birjand prison. One of the prisoners, Abdolghafour Shahouzehi, 40 years old and a resident of the village of Islamabad in Zabol, had been previously sentenced to death and was transferred to solitary confinement the day before.

He was arrested in 2019 along with two others, one of whom was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Abdolghafour had repeatedly denied the charges in court, but his execution was carried out without a final meeting with his family. The identity of the other executed prisoner remains unknown at the time of reporting.
