On the morning of Sunday, September 15, 2024, the death sentence of two Baloch prisoners, previously convicted on drug-related charges, was carried out in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz. The two prisoners had been transferred to solitary confinement the day before for the execution.
The identities of the prisoners have been confirmed as “Sasan Ben (Bozorgzadeh),” 33 years old, from Sarbaz County and residing in Iranshahr, and “Saeed Khajeh Heidari,” 30 years old, from Kahnuj.
Sasan Ben was arrested in 2019 in Shiraz on drug charges and sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court. Similarly, Saeed Khajeh Heidari was also arrested in 2019 in Pir Benun, Shiraz, and was sentenced to death. Both prisoners were transferred from the general ward to solitary confinement last night.
According to local sources, “Sasan is innocent, and no drugs were found in his possession or vehicle. He repeatedly denied the charges in court, but the judge issued the death sentence regardless of his defense.”
The families of both prisoners traveled to Shiraz for a final visit.
It is important to note that in 2023, at least 184 Baloch prisoners were executed in 26 different cities across Iran, with Zahedan and Birjand prisons accounting for the highest numbers—54 and 31 executions, respectively. Among those executed were at least four women.
