According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, Elham Ostadi, a 30-year-old Baloch woman from Iranshahr, who was arrested during the public protests in Balochistan in response to the rape of a 15-year-old girl by the police commander in Chabahar, was sentenced to one year of imprisonment by Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court in Zahedan.
📅 On August 22, 2023, Elham Ostadi was charged with “propaganda against the regime” for posting content in support of the raped girl on her personal Instagram page, despite not being physically present in the streets.
🔗 She was arrested in Chabahar by security forces without a warrant and with the use of force, then transferred to the central prison in Zahedan, where she was held in solitary confinement for ten days.
🔓 After 12 days in detention, she was temporarily released on September 1, on a bail of 200 million tomans.
💬 It is noteworthy that Elham Ostadi, who teaches English privately, had previously been fined in another case for “disturbing public opinion.”
⚠️ This unjust sentence once again highlights the alarming human rights situation and the repression of protesters and social activists in marginalized regions.
