According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, on Monday, August 19, 2024, the execution of five prisoners, including two Baloch prisoners, two Afghan nationals, and one individual with unknown identity, was carried out in Yazd Central Prison.
The identities of the executed Baloch prisoners were “Abdulrahman Damani (Gorgij),” 34 years old, married with two children, and “Abdulraouf Shahbakhsh (Dahmardeh),” 33 years old, married with one child, both residents of Zahedan. The identities of the other three prisoners, who were convicted on drug-related charges and murder, remain unknown at the time of this report.
According to available information, Abdulrahman and Abdulraouf were arrested in 2022 at the Khatam checkpoint in Yazd on drug-related charges. They were both sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Yazd, with Abdulrahman receiving a reduced sentence. On Saturday, August 17, they were transferred from the general ward of Yazd Central Prison to quarantine for the execution of their sentences.
The families of Abdulrahman Damani and Abdulraouf Shahbakhsh were able to have a final meeting with them before the execution in Yazd Central Prison. Additionally, the Hal Vash news agency, citing one of its sources, reported that one of the other three executed prisoners might also be a Baloch citizen.
It is noteworthy that in 2023, at least 184 Baloch prisoners were executed on various charges in 26 different cities across Iran. The prisons of Zahedan and Birjand had the highest number of executions, with 54 and 31 cases respectively. Among these prisoners, at least four were women.
