According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, on the evening of Monday, August 5, 2024, two Sunni Baloch clerics were targeted by unknown gunmen in the village of Garikan, located in Rask County. The assailants, who were in a Peugeot Pars vehicle, opened fire on the clerics’ Peugeot 405 car, resulting in the death of one individual and the injury of another.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Paroo, 25, son of Karim, and the injured as Saeed Darzadeh, son of Lal Mohammad, both from the village of Pishin in Rask County. Another individual named Abdullah Bijad, son of Karimdad and also from Pishin, was present in the car but managed to escape unharmed.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred while the clerics were returning from a funeral ceremony in Keshkor, Sarbaz. The unknown assailants fired directly and intensely, killing one person and injuring another, who was subsequently taken to the hospital.
As of the time of this report, the identities and motives of the unknown attackers remain unclear.
Reports also show that in 2023, at least 192 Baloch citizens were targeted in armed attacks by unknown assailants, resulting in 150 deaths and 42 injuries. Among the victims were at least five children and four women.
