According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, on Saturday, July 20, 2024, military forces opened fire on a Saipa vehicle driven by Baloch fuel carriers in Mohammadabad, Iranshahr County. This incident resulted in the vehicle overturning and catching fire, causing the death of one fuel carrier, Khalid Dehani, and severe injuries to another fuel carrier named Ahmad and a pedestrian.
Reports indicate that the military forces fired at the vehicle without prior warning, leading to the loss of control and the subsequent overturning of the vehicle. Following the overturning, the vehicle caught fire, resulting in Khalid Dehani’s death due to his injuries, while Ahmad suffered severe burns to his leg and was transported to the hospital. The identity of the injured pedestrian remains unknown.
Fuel carrying is one of the few available jobs for Baloch citizens in Balochistan, which involves significant risks such as military shootings and road accidents. This incident exemplifies a human rights violation and the disregard for humanitarian principles by the military forces.
