Ms. Mai Sato from Japan has been appointed as the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran by the UN Human Rights Council. She will start her mandate on August 1, 2024, succeeding Javaid Rehman. Sato’s first report to the council is expected in March 2025. She will engage with UN member states during the UN General Assembly in October 2024 and with the community at Impact Iran’s Congress in September 2024 in Madrid.
