According to the Balochistan Human Rights Group, on Friday, June 21, 2024, an elderly Baloch nomad woman named Mehr Bibi Siyahani, aged 70, died after stepping on a landmine planted by the IRGC near her home in Petkoki Kelgan, a district of Saravan, while she was grazing her livestock.
This landmine, planted by the IRGC in the Kelgan area of Saravan, caused an explosion that resulted in her immediate death. Mehr Bibi Siyahani’s body was buried by local residents.
This incident is one of several recent cases. About 20 days ago, another Baloch teenager lost his life in the same area due to a landmine explosion. Furthermore, on January 29, 2024, an 11-year-old Baloch child lost his leg, and four other citizens lost their lives due to a landmine explosion in the same area, which is a border region used by fuel carriers.
For years, military forces, including the IRGC, have been planting landmines in many nomadic border areas of Sistan and Baluchestan and desert regions between Kerman province under the pretext of security. These actions have repeatedly resulted in the death and injury of nomads and passersby.
