Today, on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, officials from District Four Municipality in Zahedan raided the Kashavarz area with several vehicles and destroyed the home of a Baloch citizen, Behzad Ashofteh (Rigi), a laborer with five young children, due to his failure to pay a bribe. Behzad, in a video from his residence, explained that the officials demanded 30 million tomans (approx. $700) and, due to his inability to pay, they demolished the walls of his house. During the incident, his brother suffered a broken hand from protesting, and his mother experienced a heart attack. One local municipal officer threatened that they would return to complete the demolition if the payment was not made. This event is part of a series of home demolitions of Baloch locals in recent years, which Baloch activists claim are carried out for political and security objectives, causing significant issues for the residents.
