On Wednesday, November 15, 2023, Canada’s proposed resolution condemning widespread human rights violations in Iran was adopted at the seventy-eighth session of the United Nations General Assembly’s Third Committee.

The resolution passed with 80 votes in favor, opposed by 29, and 65 countries abstaining. It strongly condemns the ‘intensification of targeted suppression against women and girls’ by the Islamic Republic and urges the country to cease systematic discrimination and verbal and physical harassment against women and girls.
