On Monday,November 13, 2023 “Zarkhatun Mazarzehi,” a Baloch female prisoner previously sentenced to execution on charges related to narcotics, was transferred to an isolated cell in Kerman Prison for the execution of her sentence.
Born in 1977, a former resident of Saravan and later a resident of Khosh County, Zarkhatun was married with a daughter and was the head of her household as her husband had previously passed away.
Mrs. Mazarzehi was detained on December 30, 2017, at the “Ghaleh Zangi” inspection point in Rayen, Kerman Province, while intending to travel to Shiraz by bus. Despite her claims in court that the discovered narcotics on the bus did not belong to her, she was sentenced to execution without consideration of her defense.
It’s important to note that due to her inability to afford a competent lawyer for an effective defense of her innocence claim, she was ultimately sentenced to execution on February 13, 2022, by the Branch One of the Kerman Revolutionary Court.
